In 1937 Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska explored a new medium – radio. She drew on her experiences in ‘Portrait of Doom’, an autobiographical dark comedy about painting. In the play, the subjects depicted by portrait painter August suddenly start to die. However, commercial ruin can be avoided if he agrees to paint his own daughter.
